Headshot Bloopers: The Fun Behind the Perfect Shot at Our Dallas Event

As a photographer, my job is to make sure you look your absolute best, whether it’s for a professional headshot, family portrait, or personal branding session. But let’s be real: not every shot is picture-perfect. And while it’s my mission to capture you at your best, sometimes it’s the imperfect moments that are the most memorable.

Recently, I had the pleasure of hosting a headshot event in the Dallas Metroplex, and while most of the shots turned out amazing (because, well, my clients are fabulous), we also had some… interesting moments behind the scenes. I thought it would be fun to share some of the bloopers and outtakes that didn’t make it into anyone’s LinkedIn profile.

The Real Faces of Our Headshot Event

Every headshot session is a mix of professionalism, personality, and—let’s be honest—plenty of laughter. While most people show up ready to nail their shot, there's always that one moment when the perfect smile turns into a sneeze, or the “casual” pose ends up looking more like a dance move.

In fact, I’ve got some serious gems to share from our Dallas event. From clients trying to hold in their laughs to those “oops” moments where the camera catches someone blinking, these bloopers are proof that no one is completely immune to the magic of an awkward photo. 😂

Here are a few classic headshot blooper moments that happen far more often than you might think:

1. The Sneeze Heard ‘Round the Studio

Let’s face it—sneezing is never glamorous, and timing it with the flash of a camera? Pure comedy gold. One client gave us a fierce pose, and then—ACHOO—the sneeze came out of nowhere. The result? A hilariously unforgettable shot where they look like they’re mid-blink, but it’s the “sneeze” version of a power pose.

2. The Surprise Hair Flip

We all know the hair flip—the dramatic, effortless toss of the head that is meant to look casual, yet always seems like it belongs in a shampoo commercial. Well, during one of the shoots, a client’s hair decided to take center stage, flipping a little too hard at the wrong moment. The picture? A masterpiece of wind-blown elegance… except it wasn’t exactly what we were aiming for in a professional headshot.

3. The “Wait, Smile? Or Serious?” Moment

Some people have the perfect “serious business” face, and others... not so much. In one of our sessions, a client was caught between two worlds: the “I’m serious” look and the “I’m about to laugh” look. Let’s just say the photo ended up looking like a mix between someone trying to be intense and someone who just realized they forgot their lunch. Classic!

4. The “Caught Mid-Blink” Shot

You’d be amazed at how many great headshot moments happen just after the shutter clicks—but unfortunately, that’s when you’re blinking, sneezing, or doing something that’s not exactly camera-ready. And while we strive for flawless shots, we occasionally get the accidental “half-blink” shots that leave clients looking like they’re in deep thought—or maybe just coming out of a nap. 😴

5. The Giggle Attack

Sometimes the most professional-looking individuals can’t help but giggle when the camera starts clicking. Whether it’s a joke, a funny noise, or just nervous energy, a little chuckle is bound to sneak in, especially when the photographer says something goofy (guilty as charged!). These moments are often the most fun to capture, because they showcase real personality, but don’t quite fit into that polished, corporate headshot.

Those moments may not make it into the final gallery, but they certainly help break the ice and make the whole experience more fun.
